In the morning, the organized tour group that stayed at the same gite leaves well before us (although their bags and luggage are lined up waiting to be picked up and delivered to their next stop). When we're ready to leave, we go to the common area where boots/shoes are kept...and Jerri's shoes are missing. Someone with the same size feet either mistook the shoes, or liked Jerri's better. Since Jerri suspects they will likely move faster than us because they're not carrying anything and so we probably won't meet up with them again, she feels doomed to wear a pair of older, don't-feel-quite-right shoes for the rest of the journey.
