October 9
At breakfast, coffee gets served with a Paddington-sized treat.
We take the 7:50 a.m. bus to León. It's a pretty posh bus for public
transportation--the sort we would consider a hired coach. It has the strongest,
fastest Internet connection I've used since I've been in Spain.
We get to see quite a bit of León, finding our way from the bus station to
the Camino, then following the Camino out of the city.
Beyond the pretty suburbs, we endure another soulless stretch of light
industry like in Burgos. In the last suburb, we turn away from city streets
onto dirt path again.
There's a bit
of climbing, and some boring scenery. The weather sprinkles on and off and
we keep getting in and out of our rain gear. The poncho is very effective but also
sweaty as heck; you don't want to be in it if you don't have to be.
It's not a particularly rough or long day. But by the time we walk into Villar de
Mazarife, I'm tired and my feet hurt. Oh, the blisters are improving; my feet
just hurt. One of the not-so-great days, I guess.
Total distance walked: 22.2 km
Total distance ridden: 18.6 km :-(
